Common questions about Knowledger
What is a Prior Knowledge Declaration?
A PKD is a sealed, timestamped record of relevant prior knowledge or ideas your receiver already had, that aren't publicly known, before you share anything with them. It means nobody can claim they already had your idea after the fact - because what they had beforehand is already locked in. It protects your receiver too - anything they declare is sealed and only ever opened if both parties agree.
What's the difference between a PKD and an NDA?
An NDA stops people sharing what you tell them. A PKD records any relevant prior knowledge or ideas your receiver already had that aren't publicly known, before you told them anything. Together they cover both directions. Neither replaces the other - Knowledger lets you use both in the same invite.
What happens if my receiver declines?
Their decision is recorded and you'll be notified. You won't be able to share your files via Knowledger with that person, but you can continue the conversation directly. A decline isn't necessarily a red flag — some people prefer to discuss the process first. Knowledger gives you a neutral process to point to rather than an awkward personal ask.
Does my receiver need an account?
No. Receivers complete their part via a unique link sent to their email. No account or login required.
What if I cancel my subscription?
Your sealed records are maintained for as long as your subscription is active. If you cancel, your records are no longer maintained on the platform. If your idea is still in play, consider staying on the Vault tier to keep your records intact.
Is this a substitute for legal advice?
No. Knowledger creates a verified record and provides a standard NDA template suitable for most situations. For complex or high value disclosures we recommend seeking independent legal advice.
